77th HT Race on May 22 and 23, 2025
On Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23, the Harlingen Water Sports Association (HWSV) will organize the 77th edition of the Harlingen–Terschelling Sailing Race (HT Race). If weather conditions allow, the finish of the 2025 HT Race will return, for the first time in over 30 years, to the Schuitengat near Terschelling. The participating yachts will start the race on Thursday morning at 7:30 AM in the Kimstergat, heading for Terschelling. The return leg will begin Friday at 10:00 AM from the Noord Meep under Terschelling.
Five route options
Whether the finish line will indeed be located in the Schuitengat will be decided at the last moment by the race committee. The starting ship will indicate the chosen course per class. There are no fewer than five route options this year. Shortly before the race, the committee will determine the final course based on weather conditions and decide which classes will sail into the Stortemelk before turning back toward the finish line.
Classes
Racers will compete in various measured and unmeasured classes. The measured classes include VA and VB traditional Dutch flat-bottomed boats, and the ORC classes. The unmeasured keelboats will be divided into two groups, with SW ratings determining the class placement. A rating system is also used for unmeasured flat-bottomed boats. For boats of the same type with at least 10 entries, a separate classification may be created.
A household name in Dutch sailing
The HT Race is a staple in the Dutch sailing world. At the starting line you’ll find both experienced racers and leisure sailors who enjoy the thrill of racing or want to cross to Terschelling under guidance. A fleet of support boats will accompany the competitors.
